Top Ten Tuesday

I snagged this idea from someone else, i.e. the top ten thing. And I probably just misused "i.e." but hey, this isn't a thesis (sorry Amy!). Just thought it would be a fun thing to try. I actually started this post a while ago but couldn't remember 10 things. Today Lailey completed the list.
(Caveat: if you're a parent, you know that many aspects of baby life include poop and other bodily fluids. Consider yourself warned.)

OUR TOP 10 FUNNIEST PARENTING MOMENTS...

1. While in the early months of nursing, Lailey would sometimes pop off right as my milk let down, and then she would get squirted...right in the eye.

2. Hearing Davey's reaction to getting spit-up on. He would say "AHHHH!" and hold her out like she was poison.

3. Hearing Davey freak out in the nursery over the "lake of poop!" when Lailey was a few months old. Then coming in the room and hearing him scream because she had just finished her poop...on his hand.

4. Setting a bowl of yogurt on the table to leave the room for one second, just in time to return to see half of it on the floor (and being eaten by Rudy), and the other half all over the tray where Lailey was delightedly holding up the bowl and smiling. Guess the highchair was closer to the table than I thought.

5. Deciding to change Lailey's diaper in the car before going in the grocery store, only to discover that it was dirtier than I had expected. When I lifted her up to get her clean, I discovered that it went up a bit further...to her shoulder blades! I ended up getting her clean, stripping her down to the clean diaper, using every last wipe, and being thankful that I always, ALWAYS carry an extra change of clothes.

6. One night while cleaning up the kitchen after dinner, I heard Davey (who was giving Lailey a bath) say "Uh, she's making that concentrating face. You might need to come in here." So, I did, and when I lifted her up in the bathtub, sure enough, the damage had been done. But that wasn't the best part. It was hearing Davey FREAK out yelling "Oh my gosh! She pooped in the tub! SHE POOPED IN THE TUB! What are we gonna do?!? Oh my gosh! Ugh, gross! Ewwwwww!!! Ew, ew, ew! I gotta get out of here!!!" All the while I'm laughing SO hard I can barely lift Lailey out of the baby bath, sit her in the big tub, attempt to pour the dirty water - and ahem, poop - into the toilet without making a huge mess, and telling my husband who is still freaking out that it will be okay. Lailey was happy the whole time and probably entertained by the commotion.

7. One time when Davey had his shirt off and was playing with Lailey (14 mos), she looked at his nipple, opened up wide and then proceeded to latch on!

8. One day I buckled Lailey (at 15 mos) in her carseat after going to the grocery store. I carefully made sure not to pinch her as I always do. When I got in the car a few moments later, I heard her protesting about something so i looked back and she was pointing to her knee. I noticed a little mark and thought, "surely I didn't pinch her." Upon closer inspection, I realized what it was and couldn't help cracking up. There were two rows of teeny tiny little teeth marks. Yes, my hilarious kid, who is also pretty flexible to do this while buckled in her carseat, managed to bite her own leg and then fuss about it. My response? "Haha, that's what you get, kid!"

9. The other day, Lailey (15 mos) looked at me and said, "Poo poo." Then she turned red and proceeded to do just that.

10. Since she was a few months old, Lailey almost always goes to sleep without any help. In fact, she typically does not want to be rocked or cuddled. Just lay her down and as long as she has a crocheted blanket she loves her bed and welcomes sleep. But lately before Lailey goes down for a nap she has wanted to snuggle for a few moments. I am a cuddler myself, so I happily rock her for a few minutes and sing to her with her head on my shoulder. She has amazed me lately by how much she really understands when I talk to her, so I have explained a few times that it's naptime and she can be a big girl and not cry and I'll see her when she gets up. This is usually responded to with an "o-tay" and she's fine. Well, today we were laying on the bed, snuggling as usual, and I proceeded with my usual question. "Lailey, it's time for nap-nap, are you going to be a big girl and not cry when I put you in your bed?" Then in the sweetest toddler voice I have ever heard, she said, "no." I laughed so hard I was coughing. She still went down with minimal protesting, but that was the funniest moment ever.
