Ever have an experience in life that you look back on and just think "That definitely didn't turn out the way I thought it would." That is what happened with our first trip to Florida this summer. We packed our stuff - which didn't include a diaper bag, pack 'n' play, little people things, toys, bottles, tiny utensils, baby wipes, a "miney" (Lailey's blanket, or rather, many blankets), stuffed animals, baby shampoo...the list could on forever - and counted down the days until we left to go to Florida, by ourselves, and stay at the the summer house of some wonderful friends. The goals of this trip were
1.) Have several uninterrupted conversations
2.) Eat some great food and only have to feed ourselves
3.) Read read read
4.) Relax on the beach
5.) Go on some photography adventures
6.) And enjoy being a husband and wife and dating again
We drove late into the night and arrived at the beautiful house, very comfortable and nice. The first day was really fun. We checked out the town and a local restaurant recommended by our friends. Then I was really tired so we headed back to the house where I slept for 3 hours. Now, I am a professional napper, but that was a bit much, even for me. I thought it was because we drove late the previous night, but looking back this was my first clue that something was not right.

Anyway, that evening after dinner I realized a little too late that there was a spectacular sunset happening. So we did a crazy thing: we ran (in Chaco flip flops) up this big bridge over the intercoastal waterway to capture the scene. I'm so glad I did!

That night we drifted off peacefully to sleep, anticipating the next few days of rest and relaxation...
And that's when things get fuzzy...
In my early dream-like state of waking in the am, I realized that I felt awful. I wondered if I slept wrong on my pillow, so I tossed and turned trying to get comfy. No, that's not it. I woke up a little more and realize I feel nauseated. That's odd. Then it hits me. I fully wake up while running to the bathroom. And thus begins three straight days of a HORRIBLE stomach virus. I will kindly spare the details, but it involved a trip to the urgent care center, a shot of anti-nausea medicine, sleeping many many hours, and pretty much staring at the ceiling, too miserable to do anything. Okay, God, I didn't quite mean rest and relaxation like this.
We finally made it out of the house on the final day, I did get some pictures, and we finally made it to the beach.
And then it rained.

Well, we finally headed home. I was quite homesick since I had felt so awful and missed the kids so much. We made it 5 minutes down the road, and the car broke down.
Sigh. Just gotta laugh at this point. Thankfully, the Lord worked a miracle. Several actually. The tow truck came quickly, we found a mechanic quickly, and he fixed it (broken serpentine belt) within an hour. Amazing. I was so thankful for those blessings at the end of everything else that happened.
Upon picking up our sweet children, who I hugged and kissed a hundred times, a friend asked, "How long does it take to get home from Palm Coast, you know, without any problems?" To which I replied, "I wouldn't even know!"

Oh my! I know you told me bits and pieces of this, but all together...good grief. Sounds like one of our camping trips. I'm so sorry you were sick. At least you didn't have little ones around to need you and get sick themselves.
