Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, and dressing up in fun costumes makes it even better. This year, Lailey was Ariel from the Little Mermaid (no doubt inspired by all the Disney fun this year) and Maddox was a "mini-marathoner" in honor of Daddy's upcoming marathon on Oct. 28th. I saw this idea in a magazine and it was easy, free, and since it was regular clothes he didn't fight it. He's in the stage now where wearing anything like a hat, hood, etc. would be a big no. I had originally intended to go all out and make Lailey's costume as well, but things have been busy this fall and Davey found her costume at the store and he thought it was modest enough (he is SO adamant about this). It was cuter than anything I'd seen online, and she loved it. I mean, LOVED it. So much, she wore it every day for weeks leading up to Halloween. She begged to sleep in it but I wanted her to wait so that it wouldn't get all messed up before Harp's Harvest (our church's festival). I didn't let her eat in it either, so before long whenever I said it was time to eat, she'd strip down to underwear and climb up to the table without even being asked! It was funny, all those meals eating in nothing but undies. But hey, it saved the dress. The crown and jewelry were a gift from "Aunt" Kathryn awhile back and went with it perfectly. I added the ribbons for fun and it was my compromise with her instead of what she really wanted = red Ariel hair. That would have been interesting.
