I keep hearing the transition from one child to two is the hardest. At least that's what most of our friends say. Since I keep expecting it to be really rough, I feel like it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I wanted to at least prepare mentally for the worst so it wouldn't shock me as badly. That sounds negative, I just realized after reading it, but having kids turns your world upside-down, even if it's because of good things. After Lailey, I was totally in love, but Davey says I got caught up in "mommy-dom," which is his man-word for "being completely consumed with anything baby-related," even if that is a good thing. While expecting Maddox, we communicated a lot about things we should do differently this time around, particularly in helping each other and expectations and such. Come to find out we didn't communicate as effectively as we thought after Lailey was born. So, having those conversations, I feel, really helped in mentally preparing for this one.

Maddox at 6 days old |
Things have been pretty good around here. Sleep is coming more and more, especially since we moved Maddox to his crib, tried the swaddle again, and have started letting him learn to fall asleep on his own. Not the easiest thing to do (who likes hearing a baby cry?), but each day it gets shorter and he is doing so well. Davey is the "tough" one when it comes to this and lovingly but firmly put his foot down one day and said "it's time." I wanted to deny it, but he was right. I credit him with getting Lailey to fall asleep on her own too. Sometimes it just takes a Daddy's touch. Having Maddox in his crib has given me so much more time with Lailey and to get things done. And I've been getting more rest too. So, it's a win-win situation. Thanks, dear.

First family walk with all 6 of us (2 parents + 2 kids + 2 furry kids) |
In addition to his masterful baby whisperer skills, Davey also tackled "the walk" the other day. While taking an evening stroll around our neighborhood, he wanted to see if he could push the stroller
and walk the dogs. And he could. I felt lazy walking behind him doing all this! He had been thinking about ways to walk the dogs and kids when he will be keeping both L and M when I return to work. Thankfully, this is far superior to his first idea: L on his back in a hiking carrier, and M on the front in the Moby wrap. Uh, yeah, I vetoed that idea
promptly. Stroller is much much safer.

My chilled out boy |
I still can't get over saying "kids." We have kid
S now. Still feels strange to say. It is pretty fun though. Of course, keeping tabs on a busy toddler and feeding a newborn every few hours is quite exhausting, and I have my moments. But I've been amazed the last few days at how things are going. I'm cherishing the good days! Hopefully they'll continue.

Sweetness |
I can't take all the credit for everything going fairly smoothly. I have had a lot of wonderful help. We've had so many friends cook meals for us, which helped us survive the first couple weeks. Davey's mom has been here whenever he's traveling (thank you, Grammy!!!), and visitors have been willing to spend some time with Lailey to help her feel included too. The other day, my cousin and her kids, Sadie and Titus, came over for half a day. Cousin play dates are always a blast.

All 4 kiddos! |
Little Maddox was 3 weeks this past Saturday. To commemorate the day, he decided to smile for the first time! The little stinker didn't do it for Mommy, though. No, he smiled at Grammy. She whistled a song and happened to get him looking right at her and yep, he smiled. Then he did it a few more times and I saw it. This picture is only a half smile, but it's adorable nonetheless. And this one
was for me. :)

0 to 1 kid is definitely the hardest. 1 to 2 is like "oh, okay, just gotta rearrange kid #1's schedule a bit" haha! Sounds like you all are doing great and Maddox is GORGEOUS!!!
