Mid-Pregnancy Ultrasound (take #1)

Yesterday Davey and I went to the doctor's office to get to see our little one on a sonogram! The first thing we told the lady when we went it was that we're NOT finding out Baby Akin's gender. At our first ultrasound (around 8 wks) she told us to warn her when we came back for this ultrasound because she's used to spilling the news. So before I got any warm goopy gel on me, I made sure to tell her. Well, the first thing she said when she got the picture up was, "Wow. This baby's really curled up!" In fact, Baby decided to be so comfy and snuggled up that we have to have another ultrasound at our next appointment in 2 weeks. If you look at the picture, you can see based on the "head" and "leg" labels that he/she is pretty much in a crunch position. She (u/s tech) said "This baby's making me look bad" because she couldn't get all the measurements she needed! While we got to watch the fuzzy black and white image, she was able to measure Baby's leg bones, arm bones, head, kidneys, bladder, stomach, and would have gotten the spine measurement and checked out a couple other things if they had been visible. We poked, prodded, switched positions, but no luck. She said it was a good thing we weren't hoping to find out the sex because she couldn't have given us a conclusive answer anyway. Leave it to our kid. :) Based on the view she did get, however, she said everything looks great and is developing exactly like it should. Baby now weighs about 9 oz and measures about 6 in. head to butt. His/her heart rate, also in the normal range, was 158 bpm.

So, check back the week of Thanksgiving for Take #2, and hopefully we'll get a better picture!
