The Bare Necessities

Having a toddler and a newborn has made me appreciate the very basic things in life. Here's the rundown...

Sleep.

Food - thank you to all our wonderful family and friends who have made meals for us. You have blessed us SO much and helped us survive the last couple weeks.

A hot shower.

Yep, that's pretty much it.  All I need right now. But if I were to expand a little and list a few other necessities that sure make life easier, here they are, in no particular order.

A baby burrito. For kissing, not for eating of course.

Little moments like this...

And fun new experiences like this.

And the most wonderful husband who willingly grocery shops with a 2-yr-old (I think he likes the attention :), carries more than his fair share around the house right now, and makes me go to bed when he can see I can't make it a minute longer. Thanks, Davey.

Everyone who has had at least 2 kids knows it's a big change. A wonderful one, but challenging nonetheless. But amidst the hormone crashes, soreness from nursing (thank goodness it's getting better; 2 wks seems to be my mark with both kids), exhaustion, messy house driving me nuts even though I know I don't have the energy to clean it, there is always comic relief. For example, while praying in church the other day, I peeked on Lailey to make sure she was behaving. When she saw me, she said loud enough for all around her to hear: "Mommy. Close your eyes!" Ah, toddlers.

Amazingly, both kids are asleep right now in there beds, which only means one thing: Naptime for Mommy!

Sarah! Reading your blog was a breath of fresh air! I have a 6.5 month old baby girl right now, and next year will have a toddler and a newborn like you(though, I am not pregnant yet).
I love seeing how children behave in church! My own little one thinks that hymnals and church bulletins are for chewing. It's so funny. She wont chew on the Bible, but give her the hymnal, and she could go to town!
I hope you are feeling more like yourself by now, but I remember it took me 3 months to feel normal again. With at toddler and newborn, you will probably never feel like your old self, but a NEW self, huh? Ah, life is ever changing!
